NAFA Requests a Restoration of the Federal Tax Credit for Biodiesel

PRINCETON, NJ - NAFA Fleet Management Association is urging fleet management professionals to write their local Senators in support of extending the tax credit for biodiesel, which expired December 31, 2009.  The biodiesel credit was reflected in the price NAFA Members paid for their fleet's fuel.  Without the tax incentive in place, the cost of biodiesel has become more expensive than petroleum diesel fuel.  As a result, the increased cost has made it very difficult for many to make the case for using a fuel which reduces our nation's dependency on foreign energy and helps clean up the air.

"Just last night, President Obama spoke of the need for America to be the leader in developing new energy sources and applications," said NAFA's Executive Director, Phil Russo, CAE.  "This is a chance for Washington to act on the President's directive and make biodiesel a realistic alternative that will not only help clean our air, but stimulate American businesses.  NAFA Members need to let their elected officials know we are holding them accountable for delivering on the President's promise."

Although the House of Representatives has passed the necessary legislation to extend the credit, the Senate has yet to act on similar legislation - H.R. 4213, the Tax Extenders Act of 2009.

NAFA retains experienced legislative representatives in Washington, DC and Ottawa, ON to coordinate vital information on laws, regulations, and other government activity relating to fleets.   NAFA's legislative team not only keeps the Membership up-to-date on legislation, which could affect fleet managers, but often plays an active role with pending legislation.
