ARTICLE TOOLS        | E-MailPrint RSS

STEVENSVILLE, MD – Stertil-Koni USA, Inc., a European supplier of heavy-duty lifts, recently acquired two companies. On Jul. 1, Stertil Koni’s parent company, Stertil B.V., acquired ALM Corporation based in Streator, Ill. ALM is a 23-year-old manufacturer of lifts. ALM’s acquisition will facilitate Stertil Koni’s goal of manufacturing in the United States and providing global outreach for the full range of Stertil Koni’s product offering.

Also, on Jul. 2, Stertil BV acquired the full assets of Fleet America Service Technology, a Maryland corporation responsible for the development and fabrication of the ECO lift. This multi-scissors lift offers the optimum in axle-based vehicle lifting. The lift is being manufactured in Fleet America’s Manheim, Pa., facility located one hour east of Harrisburg.

The integration of these two companies into Stertil Koni’s portfolio provides Stertil Koni USA, Inc. the opportunity to offer a full spectrum of lifting options presently available in the lifting industry. It fulfills Stertil Koni’s long-term objective of offering a “one-stop-shop” approach for all potential users of heavy-duty lifts.

2008: One of the Worst Years in Fleet History

By Mike Antich
I can’t recall a year as tumultuous as 2008. The year started with the Jan. 1 termination of the $1.8 billion merger between GE and PHH and ended with the near bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler. In between, we witnessed record fuel prices, then a spectacular freefall in fuel prices, a dismal used-vehicle market, unprecedented credit gridlock, the inability of some fleets to order new-vehicles, and fleet delivery disruptions due to a UAW strike and an epic Midwest flood that submerged rail lines.
