A.R.E. Prop Light Accessory Now Available

ARTICLE TOOLS        | E-MailPrint

MASSILLON, OHIO– A.R.E. has expanded its line of truck cap and tonneau cover accessories with the Prop Light, a new pin-switch activated LED light that mounts inside a fiberglass tonneau cover or truck cap.

A.R.E.'s Prop Light can be used with any tonneau cover, truck cap or toolbox equipped with type 16-2 gas springs (gas springs that have a 19mm tube body diameter and an M6 thread on the piston rod), which is the standard gas prop size for all A.R.E. truck caps, as well as most truck caps of other brands.

"When truck owners open their cover or cap, our Prop Light automatically turns on to illuminate the truck bed - there's no fumbling for a light switch or flashlight," said Bryan Baker, director of marketing, A.R.E.  "It's also a great accessory for contractors or do-it-yourselfers accessing their toolboxes at night."

A pin switch in the Prop Light attaches directly to the gas springs.  The switch is wired to an LED light, which is mounted to the roof of the truck cap, tonneau cover or toolbox and automatically turns on when the lid is opened.

The Prop Lights are available factory installed with the purchase of an A.R.E. tonneau cover or can be bought separately at an authorized A.R.E. dealer.  For a complete list of dealers, visit www.4are.com.

The accessory has a three-year warranty and requires three AAA batteries (not included).  Manufacturer's suggested retail price is $57.

A.R.E. has been a leading manufacturer of fiberglass truck caps and hard tonneau covers for the past 38 years, with more than 600 employees at its ISO-9001:2000-certified manufacturing facilities and a network of more than 600 independent authorized dealers. For more information, contact A.R.E. at 400 Nave Rd. S.E., P.O. Box 1100, Massillon, OH, 44648, call (800) 649-4ARE or visit www.4are.com.

SEC Proposal to Allow Early Adoption of International Accounting Standards

By Mike Antich
On Aug. 27, the Securities and Exchange Commission raised the possibility that approximately 110 U.S. publicly traded companies will be able to use international accounting standards (IAS) next year and may require all U.S. companies to switch to IAS between 2014-2016. There is a 60-day comment period about the SEC proposal. Fleet leasing will be impacted by the adoption of IAS. It is probable that all fleet leases in the U.S. will need to be capitalized sometime in the 2011-2016 timeframe.

The Hidden Cost of Personal Use

By Mike Antich
With fuel prices remaining elevated, many companies are wondering whether they are charging enough for personal use. At some companies, this discussion is long overdue. When re-evaluating personal use charges, a common mistake is to focus solely on the cost of fuel, which is understandable because, after all, fuel is the catalyst for these discussions. However, doing so ignores the other “hidden” costs of personal use, which have also risen.
