COLUMBUS, IN – Cummins Inc. has been selected as the engine of choice for Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., which ordered 101 Cummins ISX-powered trucks. When Wegmans began to consider options for replacement trucks in its fleet, a number of factors made the list, including fuel economy, durability, and reliability. Cummins ISX engines with cooled-EGR technology, VG Turbo, and Cummins after-treatment run efficiently while significantly reducing emissions, the company said.
The Cummins ISX 15L engines are produced at the Jamestown Engine Plant in Lakewood, N.Y. The plant employs more than 1,300 and is the largest private employer in the Jamestown, N.Y., area.
The 101 Cummins 15L ISX 500-hp engines will be delivered to Wegmans by fall of this year and will comprise nearly 60 percent of its fleet. Wegmans intends to replace the remainder of the older trucks in its fleet by 2010.
