Ford has completely redesigned its popular F-Series Super Duty line. The F-250, F-350, and F-450 models represent 40% of Ford’s annual F-Series volume.
The 2008 Ford F-Series Ford Super Duty is built on a separate platform from its F-150 little brother. The 2008 Super Duty is offered in three cab styles — Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab — two bed lengths and in both two- and four-wheel-drive.
Super Duty Mostly Powered by Diesel
Nearly three-quarters of all Ford Super Duty trucks sold are diesel-powered. The new Super Duty offers a more powerful 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel for 2008 that delivers 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb.- ft. of torque starting at 2,000 rpm. Ford says tests have shown zero-to-60 times more than a second faster than the outgoing 6.0L.
The new Power Stroke diesel joins a powertrain lineup that includes the segment’s most powerful gasoline engine, the 362-horsepower, 6.8L V-10 Triton. Customers can also choose Ford’s modular 5.4L, three-valve Triton V-8 that delivers 300 hp and 365 lb.-ft. of torque. More than 80 percent of peak torque — nearly 300 lb.-ft. — is available starting as low as 1,000 rpm.
The Super Duty lineup has been expanded for 2008 with a brand-new F-450 pickup, which sits on its own unique chassis and is made for heavy towing. The F-450 pickup offers a maximum payload of more than 6,000 lbs. and a towing capacity of more than 24,000 lbs. Towers will appreciate the Super Duty’s power-fold and telescoping side mirrors.
